Will sp2 automatically download and install on my machine if I have
automatic updates set to Automatic (recommended). I am going to turn this
off for now. Can I get other updates if I don't accept spa. How do I know
if perhaps sp2 is already installed on my machine?

Just set it to notify you when an update is available, and not install
automatically. The you can pick and choose what you want to install - or,
turn it off completely and just routinely go to the update site.

You can turnoff the Automatic Updates even if you installed Windows XP SP2.
You have a range of options to choose from for configuring "Automatic
Updates". These Options are:

a) Schedule at a particular time: You can ask Windows to download updateds
from WindowsUpdate Site at a specified time. Say every sunday at 3:00am or
so.

b) Automatic Download: Let Windows download the updates but you choose what
and when to installl

c) Notifiy Me: Let Windows notify you whenever new updates are available
and you take your own effort and time to visit WindowUpdate site and decide
what to download and when to install

d) Turn Off: Do nothing. Windows does not notify you neither downlads. You
take effort yourself to visit the site and find downloads etc.,

In The BLACK startup Screen in the Lower Left Corner..

If it Say Copywrite Microsoft and Give u A Date then u DONNOT have it...
If It just Says COPYWRITE Microsoft Then u Have SP2 installed..

Also The Animation on the same black startup page is YELLOW Prior to
installing SP2.. After Sp2 it is BLUE in color

Right click My Computer, choose Properties. Make sure you're looking at the
General tab. It will show what operating system you have and what SP s are
installed.
