I have created AVI videos in Windows 7. These play as sound only when viewed
on Windows XP.

The files have been created by a program called Internet Video Recorder, by
Fogware. This captures website video and creates an AVI. I can view these
and listen to them on a Windows 7 machine (I have tried it on two). But the
picture will not play on both of my windows XP machines.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

John

Maybe it's a codec issue...

The following free utility can identify
the code used to create the .avi files:

GSpot Super Quick Start
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/quick_start.html
(to download GSpot...left click "GSpot zip file" in the first paragraph
....then...download the file to your desktop / unzip the file and run it...
no installation is required)

Assessing Video Files and Codecs with GSpot

And...you may be able to play the files
with VLC Media Player:

VLC Media Player

As AVI is a container file most likely you have the needed CoDec on the Win7
machines but not the XP.

Use something like G Spot to see what CoDec can play it on 7 then see if you
have &/or if it's being used on XP. Not familiar with that program but would
hope they'd explain what CoDecs used to make the file.
