Hi Folks,

I have been using Avira Free Personal for about the last 3 years after opting out of AVG free when it got to bloated.

What is the word on this new Avira 2012 free edition?

My searches indicate Avira Free is now loaded with popups and nags.

What has this groups experience been?

Thanks for anny comments,

David S>

Except for the GUI and size of the installer, not much has changed.

Avira Free Antivirus (new name) 12.0.0.855
http://www.avira.com/en/support-down...free-antivirus

After uninstalling the previous version,
you can run this Avira Registry Cleaner:
http://www.avira.com/en/support-down...egistrycleaner
to remove the last entries created by Avira (5?).
Thereafter you can install the new version.

AVnotify tries to show a commercial after an update as before,
but I was able to block this in my firewall (free).

The messages about being "loaded" cannot be supported by me.

The previous version asked for a "Ask Toolbar" to be installed,
but after three (3) times refusing, that comes to an end.
In this version I have not seen a request to install the Ask Toolbar.

P.S. during the install of Avira, I took care to remove selections to
install "inappropriate" software.

I had only one request to install the Ask Toolbar and none subsequent.
