I recently purchased a new lDell latitude D630 laptop and upgraded from
office 2000 to office 2003. The video clips in a powerpoint presentation
that played on my prior computer with powerpoint 2000 all go blank when I get
to those slides on my current computer. When I edit the video clips to "zoom
to full screen" they do play on the new laptop. However, I really don't want
to play them on the full screen. Furthermore, when I loop the video clips on
the new laptop, I see the background slide momentarily between each cycle of
the video clip loop. I tried changing the screen resolution, but this does
not seem to make a difference. The video clips all play fine in windows
media player.

Are you saying they will not play full screen on the lappies monitor, or a
monitor you attach to it. (Two very different things.)

If it is the attached monitor / or projector

see

I had the same problem with my Dell. They have something called "cinema
mode" which plays any video full screen. You can disable it. The method
varies with the computer model. Check with Dell support. For my model:

Clone Mode Options offers three types of Overlay Display Mode:

Standard – which allows for video content to be displayed on your Primary
display only.
Theater Mode – which allows for video content to be displayed on your
Primary and Secondary displays, with the Secondary display showing the
video content
in full screen.
Same on all – which allows for video content to be displayed on your
Primary and Secondary displays in exactly the same manner.

Click the ATI "Overlay" tab, then "Theatre Mode Options" then "Same on all".

No monitor or projector involved. This problem simply occurs when I try to
run the powerpoint presentation on the laptop.

Apparently, I was not clear in my question. The powerpoint presentation
plays on full screen mode - this works fine. However, the embedded cine
files only play if they are set to cover the entire screen. If I set the
cine file to play on one section of the screen, it will not play. That
section of the screen just goes blank when I get to the slide with the cine.
This happens with the laptop alone - even when there is no other screen or
projector plugged in.

My laptop uses an NVIDIA card, not an ATI card. I could not find the options
that you mentioned. In any case, the powerpoint presentation itself works
fine for the "still frames" in the presentation. It is only when I get to a
frame that contains an AVI video that the screen goes blank (unless the cine
is set to play on the entire scrren). So I cannot show a slide that has a
video that uses only a portion of the screen.

Visit the OEM that made your laptop and see if they have an updated video
driver for your machine.
