You supply little detail, nor which particular codec detector you used?
Try this:
The site has a screengrab of the utility,
It is very easy to use, follow the simple instructions.
You just download it to a folder (very small file size)
Follow the simple steps to run and detect:
http://www.updatexp.com/sherlock-codec-detective.html
Once you have the details of the codec used to encode the
specific AVI file you are having probs with, go here:
http://www.fourcc.org/
This is the home page, to the top left you will see several
links, click the "codec" link (only accessiable from homepage)
A menu will appear detailing ALL codecs, just scroll and
locate the codec that was identified by Sherlock codec-
detective.
In the dialog it will detail the producer (eg: Dvix, conxenant etc)
there will be a download link, follow download instructions,
Install, Reboot - so easy!
