Is AVG working?

To date, I have been using Sophos to protect my PC at home.
The company I work for issued regular Sophos update disks to employees. I
connect to the company's intranet via a VPN connection through my normal
ISP.

Now, sadly, I no longer receive these disks so I have to find a new
low-cost but highly effective anti-virus program

I thought I'd give AVG from grisoft a go.

I believe I have it all set up and working. I have it configured to check
AND verify all incoming messages.
I am a little concerned that I am not getting the certification message
tagged to the bottom of incoming messages (I use Outlook Express 6). How
can I be certain that it is actually scanning my incoming messages? I
receive a lot of spam with attachments and am reluctant to test AVG by
risking my system and opening an infected file.

regards

Brendan

By the way according to the FAQ at the site , AVG Email plugin doesnt fully
support email scanning in OE6. They suggest to enable the plugin but if you
have any problems to disable it.

Hi Brendan,
You will find some people have views on the value, or lack of, in
having a message claiming that an e-mail is virus free. The way,
however, to turn this on and off is to double click the AVG icon in
the right corner of your screen, choose 'E-Mail Scanner' and then tick
the boxes 'Check incoming messages', 'Certify incoming messages' etc.

Download the 30 day trial of Kaspersky..if you are financially strapped use
that month to pay for it ( not sure but i think it would work out than less
than £6 a week if you started saving now? Not being sarky just I think KAV
personal is about £25 for a year?
Its a way better scanner than AVG IMO
