It doesn't work for the last few days. Does anyone else have this problem?
How does it work when it does work, how big are the update files?

You might have some luck going to
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_updt6.php?avg6=fe

I wouldn't put money on it though - looks like the site's taking a
hammering as a result of the lovesan worm. It's a very indirect way of
mounting a ddos attack on AV sites IMO. ;-)

I think I pulled this one down yesterday -- I updated after a re-
install. The update file I've got is d60313h3; it was 3.65 MB.

It was a very, very slow download: about 8 kB/sec, whereas I usually
get around 65-70 kB/sec (600K broadband).

I just tried Avast, and updates seem to be much smaller. Any comments?

Good point! Hopefully this page will always carry the most current
update:

Yes: much smaller and more frequent.
Never troubled with their automatic update.

The automatic download from .cz does not work consistently lately ..
probably due to the
overwhelming traffic caused by the current newsworthy worms, etc. I finally
downloaded
309 for 19 Aug from the URL at:
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_updt6.php?avg6=fe

By downloading it into my UPDATE folder within GRISOFT, I then execute the
AVGW.EXE file which immediately grabs the new 309 update. So, I am back in
business for the next few days until AVG in .cz gets back on its feet ...
or, I go thru
the backdoor again.
