Anyone having problems connecting with Grisoft to download AVG updates?

For the past several days I get nothing but connection failures.

TIA

Happens all the time. Be patient and get used to it, or use another AV.

No problems this morning...two updates, one at 5mb+, one at 200+kb

Be patient is right. I made the mistake of doing a manual update, as
described on the website. All seemed to go well, but afterwards the
control centre icon no longer appeared in the systray, and task
manager showed that it was not loaded. All attempts to load it
manually failed - it just beeped and did nothing.

I thought that the update must have corrupted something and decided to
uninstall and reinstall the program, at which I hit a Catch-22 that
was almost beyond belief: all attempts to do so, from Windows'
add-remove programs or the uninstall link in the AVG program group
produced a message complaining that Setup can't proceed because AVG is
already installed, and that it should be uninstalled first. In other
words, it wouldn't let me uninstall unless I uninstalled first.

I must have installed and uninstalled hundreds of programs over the
years and have never come across idiocy like this before. It took
ages to manually delete what seemed to be hundreds of AVG entries from
the registry in order to remove all traces of the program from my
system.

I've now switched to Avast, whose free Home edition is much more
configurable.

I made the opposite swtich and went from Avast to AVG a month ago
and haven't encountered any problem yet. I appreciate the low ram
consumption and the relative clear interface of AVG compared to Avast.

My download today was excruciatingly slow, about 10 k where my usual
speed is a (still measly) 170 or so. Still, its' worth it at the price.

Thanks everyone. I've been using AVG for a couple of years and never had
this problem before. I just wasn't expecting the delay.

The paid version has much more bandwidth available for upgrades than the
free version. And it downloads at about 3 times the speed.

There is a way to make the free version use the paid versions download
server. I use this method and enjoy virtually instant connection and fast
downloads.

If you know the IP of the paid versions server then a simple entry in
your HOSTS file will redirect the attempt to connect to the free version
onto the paid version.

The following line in your HOSTS file will work magic..

193.86.103.19 guru.grisoft.com

AVG Free wants to connect to guru.grisoft.com, the HOSTS file redirects
it to 193.86.103.19 which is another grisoft server.
