I have the free version of AVG. I looked that their web site to see if
the free version is any good against the blaster. Cannot find any
information there.

Is it any good against this virus?

Be your a-v software free or not, the main point is to be sure you keep
it up to date. Also, at the microsoft download center -
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/s...displaylang=en - you can
find information as to how to keep your OS updated too.

Make sure it is ver 6.0.510 with latest update and it does detect and remove
Msblaster.

Stuart.

Why wait to get infected? Keep your OS updated. If you are running
Win98/ME you are not vunerable to the Blaster/LoveSan worm. There are
still lots of updates for those OSs that should be applied. Run a firewall
such as Kerio or ZoneAlarm. There will be other viruses/worms that you
should protect yourself against.

Not taking away from the importance of anti-virus programs/updates, but a
good firewall seems to be the best protection.

That's the version I have. However, I am not sure if it is able to
detect it. That is the question I was originaly asking....

I'm actually behind a Linksys router which I'm told acts as a
firewall.

All ports on it are closed.

Do you think this is sufficient protection?

Also, I downloaded and applied the latest patch from Microsoft.

He may be missing a punctuation, which made me interpret his sentence
as:

"Make sure it is ver 6.0.510 with latest update. Make sure it does
detect and remove Msblaster."

I see now that he may be saying:

"Make sure it is ver 6.0.510 with latest update. And [Yes], it does
detect and remove Msblaster."

Thanks,

Sam
