I'd like to install AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition on a PC with XP
Professional and Service Pack 1, but I can't tell from their website if
it's compatible. Has anyone done this successfully?

Also, has anyone run into conflicts between AVG and Zone Alarm?

-Thanks

You will need more then AVG if you still have SP1.

You need SP2, SP1 is full of security holes having AVG is just not enough
protection. Why are you still at SP1.

This is for a friend's PC that is running custom software for a CD
duplication system. Upgrading to SP2 might be risky; the CD software is
older and may not be SP2 compatible.

Shame you're not in the UK - I think I still have an SP2 disk somewhere.
Upgrading to SP2 was the first thing I did to my mother's laptop when
she got it a few years back

Yes, I did.

AVG Free and XP Pro SP1 are compatible, but I never installed Zone Alarm.

I have 98SE, and did not see any conflict between AVG and Zone Alarm.
(Then ZA had that up date I never did figure out and I went to Kerio.)

So few people use XP Pro w SP1 that I doubt anyone is going to be able
to answer your question.

The people talking to you about Service Pack 2 might not be telling you what
you wanted to hear but they're probably doing you the bigger favour.
