Hi,

is the AVG free edition an older vs of the product or the latest edition (vs
7) with some restrictions ? Does the free edition have a limited lifetime ?
Is it a good choice ?

Its version 6 of the product. Version 7 is the current one. Some
advanced options have been disabled.

It works but you may want to look at Avast! and Bitdefender.

Avg 6 is the older version.AVG 7 is not free but has a better email scanner
(going through a proxy port rather than scanning the inbox folder as in
AVG6).The virus database is however the same in both.AVG6 is a good choice
if you want an AV that uses little resources (important if you use older OS)
compared to other free AVs like avast.Bitdefender free is only an on demand
scanner so i personally wouldnt use it as my main scanner.Personally i
prefer avast.

avg6 is generally good except for the occasional periods when they screw up
their update server. At those times it can be as useful as a tea-cosy. There
are many virii that it can find but not delete/clean but the info provided
in the report at least gives you enough detail to go manual. Avast is
better, far better, but has a larger footprint.
