I'm running 6.0.561. I had to register and get a seriel number to
instal it. But it has never ever given me any indication that there is
a payware version anywhere, and I have received no e-mail, solicited
or otherwise from AVG.
Been using and happily updating ref. files for 3 months now.

Rumor had that it that it would not be supported after the first of
the year. So far no indication they're changing anything.

We'll see.

AVG free information
« on: December 19, 2003, 12:56:12 PM »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There has been some discussion about AVG free no longer to be free to users in the New Year. I took the Liberty of writing Grisoft and this is their response which I hope clears up the issue.

Hello,
Thank you for your email. We have no intentions of discontinuing the AVG Free Edition. Please feel free to pass this information along.
Sincerely,
Lynn Pittman
Director US Operations
Grisoft Inc

Well, that clears that up. I will save this in case the question
comes up again somewhere.

InoculateIT PE started on the web page as a service to the computer
user, went to "Beta Testing", but we will continue to issue updates as
long as the program is on your machine, and finally became Ït's gone,
get over it and buy our commercial product"I'm not saying AVG will go
the same way down the track, but today's policy is not always
tomorrows policy.
I always say, if politicians are definite, it's a definite 'maybe' :-)

There, I feel better now

Trust no one, I say. But for now, the rumors are denied.

After the amazing song and dance Computer Associates did with
InnoculateIT, I don't put much faith in anything a software maker
has to say. I remember the Computer Associates Web page stating
that InnoculateIT would be free for personal use forever, as a
public service. When they changed their minds and decided to
charge for the antivirus, they just took the page down and changed
it -- no apologies. I imagine that somewhere along the line, AVG
will do exactly the same thing.

That rings a bell, C.A. have taken over other software in the past
and changed option/prices,cannot think of the software I used once
but stopped after they hiked up the price.
In the likes of AVG without the updates the software will be useless.
