AVG Free - constant nag screen?

Am I right that this nag screen urging me to upgrade to the paid
version is popping up about every few hours? Seems to have started
only since I installed version 7. Maybe I'm imagining it, but it also
seems to be getting steadily more frequent!

3 of us got the new 8.x version and unloaded it in 24 hours. Seemed to
us to be slow and bloated. I scanned a 4 gig chip I had some tools on.
It took 1.3 hours to scan the 4 gigs. I have no idea what it would
do with 46 gigs. It also started reporting old utilities as virus.

I never had any popup with 7.5. There is an inline flyer link to upgrade
to the paid version but no popup ad and I have it installed on both
Vista and XP.

AVG FREE 8.0 has no such nag screen. Here's the manufacturer's link:

http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download?prd=afe

There's been plenty of discussion about the new AVG FREE 8.0 update,
which has, among many other improvements, integrated AVG anti-spyware
into the freeware version. It does cause ActiveX warning flag conflicts
with the freeware SpyBot S&D, SpywareBlaster, etc., "immunization"
protection, but apart from this, I've heard of no other complaints
about the new AVG FREE 8.0 (now 8.0.100).

I heard about the update and discussions on alt.comp.freeware.

I've NEVER had a nag from 7, 7.5, or now, 8.

If you're running AVG 7.0, you're probably not troubled by update downloads
either ;-)
