Hi, I am unable to get rid of the following it appears to affect my browser
where I can't reach to "search sites" on how to remove. I am unable to
remove it with "Trojan Remover" and "AVG" just reports it.

Trojan horses;
* Downloaders.!stbar.4.G - appears twice and the following file;
istactivex.dll
* PSW.Briss.C - bridge.dll
*PSW.Briss.H - jao.dll

Also noticed my "shutdown" button from the XP-Start button has disappeared,
it only displays the "logoff" button.

Any advice/suggestions - appreciated.

Try Spybot-Search & Destroy and Ad-aware. There are several trojan
removers...I have Swatit from swatit.org, but don't know how good it is.

Manual Removal:Follow these steps to remove TrojanDownloader.Win32.IstBar.dc
from your machine. Begin by backing up your registry and your system, and/or

Unregister these DLLs with Regsvr32, then reboot: istactivex.dll
Remove these files (if present) with Windows Explorer: istactivex.dll
istactivex.inf

My suggestion: rename your HOSTS file.

I tried your suggestions as I have Spybot, Ad-aware and Trojan Remover none
of these appeared to help. I went into the directory path via CMD and
deleted the offending files AND it appears to have done the trick?!?! As I
scanned it via ZoneAlarm and AVG and no find!

What do you mean by your suggestion to rename the HOSTS.fil - which one and
why?

Glad it helped.
HOSTS is the name of the file. There is no extension. It can be hijacked,
its contents modified to cause problems. It is not a necessary file, so can
be renamed or deleted. Usually renaming is the method I use. Where it's
located depends on your op system. In Windows XP it's at
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Delete) has a menu of Shutdown options if you
can't find any other way. Loss of that option on your start menu indicates
some kind of system damage. Ultimately if there are too many problems you
may have to reinstall your op system.

Thanks again for your help. I have remove those 'nasties' my Task Manager
has the "shutdown" option as disabled and the only way for me to shutdown
the system is by logging off and then using the "shutdown option" offered
from the User sign-in.
