Has anyone tried this?

Alan I've had it and used it for 6+ months now, it's never found anything on
my machine but i didn't expect it to since i've used BlackLight to check for
that Sony problem. I can't find out anything about if it's it's being
updated, matter of fact i was going to ask Robin if she might be able to find
out if its ever going to be updated?

I just tried it and found no problems
The newist one is out of beta and Griftosoft informed me that it will be
updated when needed. Since there is no automatic update you will have to
check periodically yourself.
The latest version is as of april 11, 1007
AVG Anti-Rootkit Free 1.1.0.42

and if you look at the About and Update tab it tells you to peridically
check to see if you have the latest version
You can also go here and ask questions or find answers about it

Just make sure you install it as an administrator and you will require a
reboot afterwards.

Thank you Robin for that. It appears that i have the earliest version (no
version # that i can find) no about and no update buttons just - search for
rootkits and perform in-depth search and thats it. Now i will remove that
version and install the newest to see any difference.

Now thats a whole new ballgame, the org. beta version came with a limited
user interface no updating. Newest version must have been updated for the
in-depth scan on the org. version took 3 minutes and now 20+ and appears to
be much more thorough.

Thanks Robin and Ron for these replies.

I guess I should give it a go, as the only other comparable thing I use is
the Malicious Software Removal Tool, and it would be useful to have a
trustworthy alternative check that's simple to use and interpret.

I presume it IS simple to use and interpret?.

Alan very easy to use - interpret if it finds something is very different.
My advise is if a rootkit is found research before deletion

also is recommendation is to check on the internet for files it finds (that
is if it does find anything) to see if these are real files or not and see
if a legitimate program needs them before deletion
