AVG 8.0 has been updated to 8.5

AVG told me that the 8.5 Pro versions will come through the updater on 8.0.
At this time they are still testing this process and in a few weeks we will
see it come through.
As for the new identification protection part- this is only for AVG 8.5
Internet Security and those who have it now will have an option to download
this component separately and it will install inside their AVG.

As for the rest if you want it you will have to pay for it. That is why you
see it on their website as a separate installation.

This was as of yesterday. I would wait a few weeks and see what happens
just in case they change their minds- you never know

There is no big difference in the AVG Pro antivirus nor the AVG Pro with
firewall. The big change is with the IS version.

There are a few changes in the free one but they are also minor

Thanks for this info Robin. It was only a few months ago that I felt able to
accept that AVG8 was running properly. This all looks disturbingly rushed
(in the same sort of way)to me, and I'll be in no hurry to join the 8.5
party!

I agree to wait especially since you have the internet security version and
that one has the major changes in it

I guess that this is all the more reason to switch to NOD32.

not necessarily true
I tried nod32 and I did not like it
every software upgrade goes through loops when there are new versions
Avira is doing a version 9 and I am sure it will be a bit loopy when it
first comes out

btw for those who have Internet Security 8.0 this is how you update to 8.5
and add the identity protection

You can add AVG Identity Protection to your currently installed AVG
Internet Security by using the AVG 8.5 installation package:
- Download the latest AVG Internet Security 8.5 installation file
from:

http://www.avg.com/download?prd=ais

- Click on "Download AVG now (paid version)". The installation file
corresponding to your AVG product will be shown, save this file to
your Desktop.
- Double-click the file on your desktop and follow the steps indicated
in the setup program to begin installing your AVG 8.5.
- When prompted, select option add remove components
- On the Component Selection screen tick all the components you wish
to install, including AVG Identity Protection.
- Restart your computer.

It seems odd that I've had no automatic notification of any of this through
my existing AVG8 security suite. I wouldn't know about the existence of this
new stuff if it were not for your posts here, Robin.

Ah sorry Robin - I just reread your original post, and I see you mentioned
that they'll be shuffling around for a few weeks yet. Presumably at some
point the automatic updater will tell me something, but not yet.

I have a feeling because you are on the internet security program you will
be getting an email from them.
In fact I think all of their clients who have the pro version will be
getting an email from them on how to update.

I've already updated per your link, Robin. I hope I wasn't premature.
