Is there a way to permanently turn the mail scanner off?

All I can find is "disable plug-in", but it doesn't stay that way.

Under Email Options/Configue, you can have it NOT scan ingoing and/or
outgoing mail.
With the free version, that option sticks, even after reboot.
Although systray icon goes into the "error state" gray.

Check incoming/outgoing are both unchecked.

This damn scanner just "scans" sometimes for no reason and it's kinda
irritating.

Check C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avg7 for a
"stuck email"in queue/in/out folder and manually delete it.
Alternatively You could run the avg setup.exe again and choose custom
install and untick the email scanner plugin. This will leave it out
completley.

Try executing the installatio file again, use the add/remove function
and remove the email scanner component.
