the self protection module in avast
free edition ?

and could not find the answer to my question .
i'm sure it's there somewhere but i could not

Right click on the avast! icon in the notification area.
Select Program Settings from the menu that pops up.
Note: You can also go to the Start menu and launch avast! Antivirus. From the
avast! Simple User Interface, click on Menu in the top left hand corner.
In avast! Settings, click on Troubleshooting in the left hand column.
Under Troubleshooting, put a check mark in the box next to Disable avast!
self-defense module.

i thought that self defense and self protection
might be the same thing .
THIS is what was causing my problem with
system restore not working !

according to what i read ,
they supposedly fixed the problem
with a recent update to version
4.8.1187 .
i'd be interested to know if it works for you .

I tried System Restore with self protection disabled and the restore
operation completed successfully. Then I tried it with self protection
enabled and the restore operation was not successful.
