Avast gives me "Avast requires a system restart" message after I
update the program or when I reboot. Is this normal or is there a
setting I can change to stop this or at least lessen the frequency of
the restart messages?

avast 4.7
Win XP home

It's normal with a program update, it shouldn't be happening with each re-
boot.

Actually, I get it any time I'm on line......not just at bootup and
update.

Grrr.... I looked at the program settings, don't see anything obvious. This
would be a good question to take to <http://forum.avast.com/>. The forums are
easy to browse or search, free registration is required to post.

I don't see that problem. The forum is good, but I've had no luck at all
in getting a response as to why winxp is unable to terminate the avast
process and requires me to select the terminate now box. It's a nuisance
since it will just hang if no manual intervention.

Is this the same problem that the OP (garete) was having? I logged into the
forum, searched for 'require restart', no quote marks, and found four pages of
posts containing the search words.

No it's not the same problem, nor is there a problem searching the
forum. Just haven't come across either a solution or an explanation as
to why it happens. I'm hoping it will just go away with new program
updates, but so far it's followed the updates. Others have seen the same
problem.

Okay. Have you posted the question in the forum? Have you tried uninstall,
clean the registry, reboot and reinstall? I doubt that the problem will cure
itself if something has gotten corrupted.
