Is there a setting in Avant which prevents access to ftp sites? I keep getting
an error page with Cannot find server or DNS Error at the foot every time I
click on an ftp link.

I used to have problems with Avant and FTP (the browser would occaisionally
hang) but it hasn't happened in a long while. What version of Avant are you
running?

You are quite a bit behind. I would suggest you upgrade. The latest non-beta
version is 10.0 build 35a. I am running the beta with no problems (10.0
build 101a). You can get them here:

Hopefully that will fix your problem.

It might be : Tools > Avant browser options > Files and protocols

Then tick the box for ftp.
