My DV camera has an AV to DV converter. I would like to
edit some VHS home movies on WMM2. I can see the VHS
signal in the preview window; however when I try to
capture the video, WMM automaticaly starts playing the DV
tape, which overrides the VHS signal passing through the
DV cammera. My video camera (canon zr50) suggested running
the AV -> DV converter with no tape installed. I tried
this, but WMM2 gives a "no tape present" error. The only
solution I have found is a two step process: record to DV
tape, then capture in WMM2. This takes twice as long. Has
anyone done this? Any help to get AV -> DV converter to
capture correctly would be appreciated.

I have the same camcorder and problems. WM2 will not work correctly with the
Canon Camcorders doing a direct A to D conversion. (This is a major
shortcoming in the software. WM1 worked OK with Canon camcorders directly
converting Analog video to AVI.) I now first capture with MovieXone from
Aist.com then Import to WM2. I found a freeware copy of MovieXone on the
DVDXCopy website. It's an extra step, but it works OK. I lose audio sync
after 45 minutes of conversion. Anything under 45 minutes works fine. I
don't think the Canon camcorder locks the audio to the video during long A
to D conversions.

Reminds me of a situation once when MovieMaker (1 at the time) couldn't
handle WMV file. I ended up importing it into MovieXone and then saving it
as a DV-AVI file to get it into MM1.
