Hello,
Version 2.5 of this F-PROT updater was released, containing the
following improvements over the previous one, 2.1:
* Now it is possible for people without an always-on Internet
connection, e.g. dial-up modem users, portable computer users and
others to fully enjoy the automatic updates feature of this utility.
It now has a reliable detection of Internet connectivity. In previous
versions, if no Internet connection is available at the time of a
sheduled update attempt, an error message is displayed and the program
waits for the user to click OK. Now, error messages will not be
displayed in that case, and it would silently wait to check for an
update within a minute after the user connects to the Internet again.
After an update is performed successfully, the normal update schedule
specified by the user in the configuration will be followed once
again;
* When the user does a manual update and there are no updates
available, a message box now appears informing them of the fact so
that there is no misunderstanding;
* Official support for the commercial Windows version of F-PROT(r).
You can update the commercial version of F-PROT(r) if you specify its
subdirectory holding the antivirus definitions. Under Windows(r) XP,
the utility interacts with the commercial version so that the latter
knows that its antivirus definitions have changed. One reason to use
the utility with the commercial version is to take advantage of the
different scheduler, since it allows checks for updates to be fully
silent without a window popping up in front of you telling you of an
update check or an update download in progress.
PRELIMINARY ANNOUNCEMENT: Version 3.0 will feature improvements such
as automatic updates to the utility itself, so that you no longer need
to check the product website to ensure that you have the latest
version.
