AV comparison

I have a friend who has Panda Antivirus installed on her computer. Looks
like no updates have been done since 2005. I use AVG. I know it is a free
program but it seems to work well for me. I am not familiar with Panda
Antivirus but I was thinking of uninstalling it if AVG would be better for
her (I need to also show how easy it is to update). Also was thinking of
installing Spybot and Adaware (she has spysubtract and spysweeper, but more
malware protection will never hurt). Lastly, I installed Mozilla Firefox so
she has an alternative to explorer. Any other ideas? And what would you say
about Panda AV VS. AVG?

AVG is just as good or better than Panda. It's free for personal use. Panda
is also a fine product. However, if Panda is NOT updating properly,
something is wrong. Might as well switch to AVG.

I use a spyware immunization program called Spyware Blaster. You can find it

I am not sure if it is that it is not updating correctly or if she has not
been updating it. Its amazing how many people think that once they install
an Antivirus, they are safe. I have had several people say to me, "I have
anti-virus...what do you mean I have to update it?" or "I have to run tthe
program? I thought it runs itself."

Most AV's (including Panda I'll bet) have an auto-update function. If
it's not updating, either your friend has that feature turned off, or
there is another issue, perhaps malware related.

True. But many people don't realize that in order for an AV to be effective,
you have to occasionally run it.
