Hi,

A work colleague has an infected home PC, the virus has disabled Norton & I
can't install any other AV packages. I've tried safe mode but no joy & an
on-line scan took over 12 hours & was still running, which is way too long.

From what I've read I think the machine is infected with the bobax.c & pe
bagel.q-o viruses, I'm thinking the best bet would be to add the HD as a
slave and run an AV scan on it that way, is this a good idea or am I
missing something important? Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers, Jase.

be careful adding the drive as a slave to another pc... if the other pc
has a newer operating system it may 'upgrade' the filesystem to
something the original can't read... you're safest if the two pc's have
the same operating system version and service pack number...

another option might be a bootable cd with an up to date anti-virus on
it...

That's the best option, IMO. Most av apps are intended to
do just that so the original av files cannot be changed or
infected: It's a way to have positively known good set of
virus software. BUT DON'T USE AN INFECTED MACHINE TO MAKE
THAT CD!
