AutoUpdate Failed! "Could not detect internet connection"

When I try to run AutoUpdate I get a warning that
AutoUpdate failed because it could not detect an internet
connection. No other updating programs have this
problem. I tried while IE was open with same result, and
tried uninstalling and reinstalling AntiSpyware with same
result. Any ideas out there?

Thanks,
Steve

If you go to File, update, does that function?

In Help, about, what definition version do you see? At this writing 5682
was the current level.

I have the same exact problem with the self-same attempts
in regards to hopefully making the 'Manual' Update
function properly... which it does not. Running XP Pro. Is
anybody able to "Update", be it Auto or manual???

Had the same problem, but when I unchecked the "Use Java"
in the IE advanced folder and checked the option "MS VM"
instead - the problem with missing connection was solved.

If you go to File, Check for updates, does that work?
After you have done that, what definition number is shown in Help, about?

Thanks,

I ran into the same problem, but reverting to MSVM is not worth the security risk - Sun isn't as secure as I would like either, but MS VM is a prime vector for crapware. I finally fixed it by changing the program's permission status in ZoneAlarm (6.0.667.000), so it may apply to other firewalls as well.

Hope this helps someone.
