Hi
We want to develope a usb flash drive, just like a CD ROM,which contains
some software can autorun when being plugged. But we find a strange
phenomena:
After insert our usb flash drive into a computer with a fresh
installation of Windows 2000/Windows XP/Windows Vista for the first time,
the AutoRun functionality of our computer may not work. However, after
unplugging and plugging the device into the computer, the AutoRun
functionality may start to work again. After that this phenomena does not
occur again.
I hope someone can explain it, Thanks for answering.
Sincerely,
Carter

The auto run function is probably not working on first use as the device is
being installed. After the device has been installed, as you say it will
happily work as you want it to

autorun software in my cdrom after a fresh installation of Windows
2000/Windows XP/Windows Vista for the first time. The autorun function can
start to work immediately, but our device cannot. It is very puzzled

The problem is not with the auto run function. Your CD Drives are already
installed when the system first boots up. A USB Drive however has to be
installed by windows the first time it is inserted. This is why the
programmes do not auto run the first time. Once the device is installed
though it is able to auto run each time it is inserted again

It is still recognised as a new device the first time the operating system
reads it. To give an example, I regularly use my USB flash drive on my
computer, however If a friend connects their one it installs it as a new
device. I'm only guessing but I'd imagine they each have some form of I.D.
and the system simply recognises it as a new USB device, unaware that it is
another USB flash drive until it is installing it.
