Dear all
I have a dual boot home built machine Win98 in primary partition XP
Pro in the other.
I have a Samsung SC152 CD-ROM as master & as a slave and HP 9100
series CD Writer. They both autorun in '98 but not in XP.
This is a recent (past few days) and I don't remember installing any
s/w in that time.
Both OS's are up to the required Critical Updates, both protected by
NAV. Regular virus scans and I use Mailwasher. Have BB with double
firewall & NAT on modem and wireless router. So I can be pretty sure
I'm not infected as I also run Forte's Agent with Nav and all mails
are checked and yes NAV is updated via Live Update too.
On this installation which has been kept clean since I installed it in
May 2003, there is only one undue failure of a service in the event
log and I know that is to do with some scanner software. I'm not
bothered because I only use it to switch the lamp on and off using XP
wizard for actual scanning.
I have checked everything out in the article in the subject line. I've
never had Roxio's Easy CD Creator or it's many versions (HP freeware
and stuff) installed and have relied on the XP s/w. All the settings
in the registry are as they should be as per the above article, so
they don't need fixing.
Not only has my autorun for programs from an .inf file stopped but
audio has too. Additionally if I go to browse either CD drive with a
CD in it, I don't get the volume label displaying even though I can
see and launch the files. If I tell XP to populate with data about the
media, it tells me there is no media - even though I can see the files
in another window!
Does anyone have any ideas? Other MS Articles?
TIA
