Autorun and Application Installation Problems caused by MacDrive

I was unable to install TurboTax on my Windows XP machine and it turned out
to be caused by a third party application: MacDrive.

MacDrive by Mediafour allows Windows users to read Apple disks but also
unknowingly defaults all drives on the machine to be Apple, if a dual format
Apple/Windows disk is introduced. This only occasionally causes a problem,
but is unlikely to be found, since it generally occurs some months AFTER
installation of MacDrive.

I went through all the Windows support debugging of checking my Registry
autorun settings and updating all my Windows installers. None of this helped.
I only found out the culprit was MacDrive when I re-formatted my hard drive
and re-installed all applications one-by-one, checking the install
capabilities of a dual format disk with each application.

Here's the fix if you have MacDrive installed:
# Open "My Computer"
# Right-click on the CD/DVD drive containing the dual-format disc
# Choose "MacDrive -> Show Windows files"
# You can also globally set MacDrive to view the Windows files on a
dual-format disc by going to Start > Control Panel, selecting MacDrive,
selecting the "Settings" tab and checking "View Windows files" (under
"Dual-format CDs/DVDs).
