Hi

I am having a problem with an XP Home computer. When you insert a DVD into
the DVD burner drive, the computer regularly freezes, requiring a manual
restart. I have tried different drives and cables but the problem remained. I
then tried disabling the autoplay function (via the registry) and this
appears to have fixed the problem, the computer does not appear to freeze any
longer.

The question is, does anyone know what could cause this issue and what can
be done to fix autoplay?

Note, the computer is only about a year old and has decent specifications.

Any help would be appreciated.

What CD/DVD Burning software is installed on the PC ? Programs
like Nero and Roxio add hooks into Autoplay that expand the built
in choices to include those provided by the software. One piece of
information is whether you can still burn disks now that the computer
doesn't Freeze up on inserting a blank disk.

Try the above link.

Few CD/DVD Burning programs may intefere with your CD Burner.
Also check for malware/Spyware/Virus infection on your computer.

Search the Newsgroups posts to find out malware removing steps and software.
