hello,

i'm trying to find out if there is a way to open an existing spreadsheet and
have the columns rearranged automatically.
soon i will have to download a .txt file daily, which i need to use in excel
the problem is that the .txt file has several columns of data that i don't
need and the columns of data that i need is not in the right order.
i really do not want to have to sit and rearrange the columns of data that i
need every day, so i'm curious if there is something that i could set up, so
that when i open the .txt file in excel, i only get the data that i need.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tracy,
You could record a macro while going through your manual process. Then in
the future you can import your data and then run that macro to repeat the
process with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Remember that the macro you record is going to perform exactly what you did
when you recorded it, including using the same sheet names and columns/rows
and all.

If you need it to be more "robust", you could record the macro and then post
back asking how to make it more flexible. Be sure you paste a copy of the
macro code with that request if you make the request.
