Automatically select an address as you type?

Hopefully this is a nice, easy one!

We're transitioning a bunch of users from Entourage on Macs to Outlook (via an Exchange server) on PC's, and I've been asked a question that's driving me insane!

In Entourage, as I type someones name, it displays a list of contacts or recently-used email addresses I have that match. So, as I type "ste", it displays all the Steves I have in my contacts.

I cannot get this to happen in Outlook, no matter what I try, and quite frankly it's driving me insane! Users want to just type in a few letters, and have the email address appear and be able to select it.

Is this possible? I've checked and have got the option turned on for suggesting as you type, and that works IF I type the name in, check it, then delete it - if I then try to type it again, it displays a list.

Any ideas?

Right, that's great. But only covers the PC. As I said, we're going from a Mac using Entourage. As such, the file this document refers to don't exist.

So, does someone know how to have this work when you go from a Mac to a PC?

Why don't you post in the appropriate group for Mac users? You'll find none
here.

Then your users will have to lump it until the file has been built-up on
their Outlook installations....

You'll have to build that list as you go. Assuming you're using Outlook
2003 or later it does have the AutoSuggest function like you describe.
After you e-mail a user that address will get added to your AutoSuggest
list and so next time you start to type their name or address it will
offer it to you as you describe.

I don't know of any way to transfer Entourage's AutoSuggest list to
Outlook - I think those users will just have to build it as they go.

The good news is that after a couple of weeks all of their common e-mail
recipients should pretty well be in there.

It will AutoComplete also, by the way. If you type "Steve" and then
press ALT+K (or just tab to the next field and continue) it will offer
you a list of all of the "Steve"s in your Contacts list.

You can populate your autocompletion cache with all of your contacts, if you
wish, by opening your Contacts folder, selecting them all with Ctrl-A,
clicking Actions>New Message to Contact, pressing Ctrl-K to resolve all the
addresses, then closing the compose window, discarding the changes.
