When I double-click on a .doc or .docx file in an email, it automatically
prints the attachment instead of opening it. I have been opening attachments
for years.

I am testing Exchange Server 2007 Outlook, I have searched for a setting and
cannot find anything. I tried help...

There would be nothing (natively) in Outlook that controls this.
I suspect it is something you've done to Word.
Does it happen for other attachments as well?
What is your default action set to for Word files?
Verify that it is set to Open and not to Print.

Where would I find that setting? I have been all through Options and Prepare.

It does seem to be only in Word. But I have not "knowingly" made any
changes in Word.

It's a Windows settings, not a Word or Outlook setting.
Which version of Windows are you using?
