Hi!

Quick question for you Novell guys here. How do you make
NetWare automatically log a user off? I want to set an
idle time, most likely two hours. After two hours, if a
user is logged in and hasn't done anything, the server
automatically logs them off.

Can this be done?

watchdog usually patrols for incorrectly disconnected idle users & logs them
off, but maybe you can set it to do it for anyone. You can also set login
time restrictions, but thats probably not the direction you wanted to go in.

I'm not exactly sure what an "incorrectly disconnected"
idle user is. Let me give you an example of what I'm
talking about. I work at company X, and at 5 pm, I leave
to go home. One day I forget to log out and just leave
everything on my computer up and running. I need Novell
to automatically log me out after two hours of inavtivity.

You can configure login time restrictions on a user object in
NDS/eDirectory, for example from 07:00 to 19:00, this will prevent users
logging in outside of the allowed times and should also disconnect user(s)
from the NetWare servers when the time reaches the restriction, however it
won't log out the user from the workstation (it only kills the NetWare
connection between the PC and the server).

If you have ZENworks for Desktops (version 2 or later), perhaps you could
use a ZENworks for Desktops scheduled task which runs (as the system)
ShutDown.exe (from the Windows Resource Kit) to initiate a logout on the
workstation, the task can be scheduled for a specific time, but not for a
period of inactivity.
