I have just bought a new laptop with Windows Vista. One thing that does not
seem to work is the Automatic Completion of the email Address when I begin to
type it in the address bar. Curiously, it seems to do it for some addresses,
but not for others. I have checked in "TOOLS" "OPTIONS" and "SEND", and the
correct box is checked. I can also bring up the address book by clicking on
the icon adjacent to the "TO" in the address line.

Can anyone let me know what is wrong?

Allen

That's just the way it is. A definite bug.
You'll find that auto-complete works mainly with addresses
you've recently sent to.

Thanks Gary. It's always two steps forward and one step back, isn't it. I
suppose they'll fix it in due course. Yes, it does work with people I've
recently emailed.

I know this isn't much help, but I'm having the same problem. Hopefully,
they'll create a patch to fix this bug.

Here's what I have discovered on the auto-completion of email addresses,
after much agravation. You have to type the first 3 characters of the email
address you want to use. Then you hit the tab key and it will fill in the
rest of the email address if it is present in your contacts list. Give it a
try and let me know if it works for you. Thanks.

Yes, that does work for me, nice find! You can also hit Enter
instead of Tab. But it's not very intuitive, and not what people
are used to when expecting auto-completion.

It's not working for me. If I type the first three letters of the name of a
contact (or their actual e-mail address) and hit "TAB" all I get is a
semi-colon, and then the cursor hops down to the "CC" box immediately below.

But thanks for trying!

Dave

P.S. I'm using Vista Home Premium

I spoke too soon. It's working for a few of my contacts. Completely random,
it seems, which ones your method works for. It's a pretty low percentage.

I am also having problems with autofil in my emails. I have tried typing
three letters and hitting tab and it didn't work at all for me. Sometimes my
autofil will work on a few names and then it quits. No rhyme nor reason as
to when it may work.
I also hope that Microsoft comes up with a patch to correct this.
It is most annoying.

it has been said that you have to send 1 or 2 mails to that address before the auto fill works as expected.
DUMB isn't it.
