Automatically accept meeting invitations

In an effort to set up a project-wide meeting calendar, I created a fake user
named "Project Meetings". When any project member sets up a meeting, they
invite "Project Meetings" as an attendee. By sharing the "Project Meetings"
calendar with everyone, we have access to all project meetings, even ones
that a specific user is not invited to. Here's the problem. I checked
"Automatically accept meeting invitations" at Options>>Calendar>>Resources,
but meetings won't show on the "Project Meetings" calendar until I log in and
accept them. Is there a way to make meetings in which the fake user is
invited as an attendee show up on that fake user's calendar?

Users need to invite Project Meetings as a resource in order for the automatic acceptance to take place.

With that in mind. Is there a way to make that resource's status default to
resource instead of required.
Because I have had an issue with people setting up a meeting and thinking
they reserved the room and all they did was invite the room as another person.

Not in versions before Outlook 2007/Exchange 2007. You might want to look at what the tools listed at http://www.slipstick.com/calendar/skedresource.htm have to offer.
