Automatic Update Temporary Directory & files

I was having problems with my laptop and was unable to install the automatic
updates. I had my admin settings to download the files. It just kept
downloading the same updates over and over again. Each time putting them in
a new directory. It finally ran my harddrive out of space. I fixed the
problem and have since install all of the patches. But this time I installed
them from the update home.

I was able to remove all of the temporary directories except one. It will
not let me delete it because it is write-protected. It will let me change
the attribute but when you go back into the directory to delete it it is back
to read only.

I need to know how to permanently delete it???? Is the some tool to delete
this? It is not needed because the SQL Server 2005 patch was successfully
applied and I need the disk space.

Windows ignores the read-only attribute of folders. Reboot into Safe Mode,
then delete the offending folder.

Pegesus,

I tried your suggestion of booting into safe mode and deleting the directory
and files. I still got an "access denied" no matter what in Windows Explorer
and in a DOS session.

Any further suggestions?

Log on as Administrator, then delete to folder. If denied permission then
you need to seize ownership of it. Click Start / Help and look for help on
Ownership if unsure how to do it.

Pegasus,

I'm both owner and admin. I was the one that started the auto update. It
initially failed, then I fixed the over heating problem; then I successfully
applied it. Is there some other ownership type? Now when I applied it I
changed the options to install from the update server. Is that going to
change anything?

No, it won't change anything. If you still can't delete the problem folder,
follow Jim's suggestion.

Jim,

Thank you for your quick response. I had to use your suggestion. It worked
like it was intended to. That is assuming of course that it doesn't
re-appear after rebooting.

Thank you so much.

Best regards.
