Automatic task status report

I keep on getting a status report every three minutes on a task I had
assigned. When I talked to the concerned person, he told me he wasnt even
updating it. The task file was just open and he left the desk, and I recieved
about 100 emails in a few hours.
We have attachments in our tasks, and i want to keep an updated copy with
me, but I dont want to receive an email every time the person opens his file
or is working on it. Not every three minutes atleast.
Please suggest the possible problem. Thanks!!!
