Hey guys, just wondering if there is anyway to program the computer to
automatically startup or shutdown for windows xp home! Thanks

Startup : No, way in any version of Windows. You can setup this in your BIOS if your
BIOS has the option.

Shutdown : Click Start > Run > Type cmd > Type shutdown /?

This will tell you all the switches available for shutdown, when you know which one
you want, then create a shortcut somewhere and put that command with the switches in
the Target.

It will look like this :
shutdown -s -t 00

You can automate the process with very great options using WinOFF [Free]:

You can start up your PC automatically at a specified time if
your BIOS supports this functionality.

You can also shut it down automatically. Of course you have
to specify the condition when this should happen. Should it be
at a fixed time? Five minutes after startup?

You could also go to start > programs > accessoires > system tools >
scheduled tasks. New task > command shutdown -s -t 00, and change the
execution options,
