automatic scans not working

Hi Everyone,
Hope I can finally get an answer to this. Several months ago I purchased
Webroot Spysweeper (antispyware). The automatic scan settings worked fine
for months. Recently, the automatic scan feature stopped working and I can
only complete a scan manually.

I have been in touch with Webroot tech support, and they did everything that
they said they could do and the problem was not corrected. There are still no
automatic scans. The last thing they told me was to contact MS because it
had to be a problem with the Windows Task Scheduler. I told them I already
checked that and it indicated the task scheduler was on and working properly.
I am hoping I can get more suggestions as to how to turn the automatic scans
back on. I should also add that I did do an uninstall/reinstall of this
program and that did not correct the problem either. I also have Sunbelt's
Vipre antivirus and firewall and they are not indicating that they are
blocking anything on Spysweeper.

Also, I have just recently discovered that tapping my F8 key at start up
does not bring up the Safe Mode screen. I am certain that use to work also.
I am not sure if these 2 problems are related or not, but I would like to
have each one working again.

Try these popular around here scanners (manual scans are free).

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware
detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

Thanks for the reply I have recently tried Malwarebytes and it did not
correct this problem. I will install the other one, SuperAntispyware and see
what happens.
Thanks,

Please state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3) when posting to
this newsgroup.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

The above are your most likely suspects. Hopefully, you have back-ups of
the changes they've made.

If you think your Registry needs to be "cleaned" or "repaired," read
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions.

Defender is an anti-spyware application & does not include a firewall
component.

Thanks, read all the threads you suggested. Looks like RegCure Registry
cleaner really isn't worth using if these cleaners cause problems.
