I know that this is not the forum for AOL questions. However I need help and
AOL tech help ( a true oxymoron) doesn't seem to answer questions anymore.
My question is how do I turn off the automatic restart function of AOL 9.1
when it (A) looses a connection or (B) I try to shut it down when it fails to
make a connection or locks up.

PSRumbagh,

I, too, use AOL. So I feel your pain. I'll assume you're using a broadband
connection.

When the AOL Sign In page is displayed, but you are NOT signed in, on the
Sign In Screen go to Connect Options/Advanced Settings (at the bottom left of
the AOL setup page)/Broadband tab/Continue (in broadband settings window)/
and then remove check mark from "Automatically Reconnect me....). Then click
"Save" and back out.

Then, you must Start Internet Explorer and go to the Connections tab. Place
a dot in "Never Dial A Connection". Click "Apply", then click "OK" and back
out. (Note that any time you open the Connect Options on the AOL Sign In
screen, you must again go Internet Explorer and put the dot in Never Dial A
Connection. )

If you're using dial up, the instructions are similar, but choose the "Dial
UP" tab on the "Advanced Options" page.
