I have several clients that have lost the populated names/addresses in
automatic name chekcking drop down. The function is stll checked in the
e-mail options. Is there any way to repopulat this list , is it stored
somewhere? Thanks!

That drop-down is associated with autocompletion, not automatic name
checking (a.k.a. autoresolution).

Yes and yes. For a good explanation of the autocompletion feature, see
this:
http://www.ingressor.com/autocompletetips.htm . To populate the list with
all of your contacts, open your Contacts folder and select all the entries
with CTRL-K. Then click Actions>New message to Contact. A new message
window will open with all of your contacts in the To field. Press CTRL-K
(Check Names) and all of your contact addresses will resolve (and become
underlined when they do). At this point, they're now all in the
autocompletion cache. You can close the new mesage window and click No when
you're asked if you want to save the changes.
