I downloaded and installed Windows Defender when it was first offered. It
replaced Beta 1, which daily performed an automatic scan. Now I cannot find
anyway of programming an automatic or manual scan. Which way do I do it?

Open Defender, open tools > general settings. You can set your scan
preferences from there.

Additionally, for those interested. The scan set in the UI is set up as a
hidden Scheduled Task, You can open the Scheduled Tasks UI in Control
Panel, and go to Advanced to make it visible. You can then modify the scan
with all the facilities available in Scheduled tasks, or create different
scans for different days.
