I just recently installed windows xp onto my computer,
now I notice that when I log onto my computer my instant
messenger automatically logs on and starts up. How do I
make it so that the computer does not automatically log
me onto messenger. I don't want everyone who uses the
computer at home to have access to my instant messenger.
I need to know that when I log off it is off and that no-
one else can use it but me using my password. Please
help. This is going to drive me crazy.
Thank you

In MSN Messenger 6, go to Tools then Options.
Then click on the general tab, uncheck Automatically run Messenger when I log on to Windows.
You may also want to uncheck Allow Automatic sign in when connected to the Internet.
Hope this helps!

Slick,

If everyone in your household is going to use the same windows account (bad
idea) then you need to change msn messenger option as described by Ron.
However a much better way is to configure different accounts for everyone
and let the auto start applications run at windows logon. For example, I
have three accounts, one for me (with full Administrator rights), wife (as
normal non admin user) and children (restricted user). The convinient for
this setup is that I can allow many applications including msn messenger to
autorun/logon when i logon to my windows account. Wife account is configured
with her selected auto start applications and other settings. Children
account has no auto start applications.

(Actually the preferred setup is to use a non-admin account for my use well
but that is too much hassle.)
