The MSAS web site implies that users of 615 will receive 701 automatically
(or you can download it manually from the site if you wish). I've been
waiting for about 2 weeks for 701 to show up automatically, but nothing yet.
I have read other posts that refer to receiving a message offering 701 to
them, but I have not seen such a message. So, what gives? Have I
misunderstood and need to do the manual download/install or is there a bug in
the automatic updating. (Note, I have been receiving spyware definitions
when I click on file/check for updates, but no software updates).

You can go either way.

Still 20 days for the date line.

Are you in a hurry, go here:

I agree with Engel. I don't know how to characterize the automatic update
process--there is no user-trigger for it--it doesn't come in via file, check
for update.

It wouldn't surprise me if we hit January 1st, and some users were still not
updated.

Feel free to go to the download center via Engel's link and upgrade that
way.

Thanks for the help. I decided to wait a while to see if the automatic
update happened - and it did today 12/12 - when I booted up there was a MSAS
message offering the new version - I accepted and now I'm on 701 and it seems
to be working (with 5783 definitions installed). It would appear that the
automatic update is spread out over time for the user base.
