I am using Outlook 2000. I have set a filter that automatically moves
certain emails straight into my deleted folder. My problem is that I
still get a new email icon in my windows taskbar. The only way I can
remove this is by going into Outlook and changing which folder I am
looking at.

Is there any way of stoping this when the emails go straight to the
deleted folder?

No, that functionality has been introduced in Outlook 2003.
