When I used the picture download wizard in the past, there was a box I could
check if I wanted the pictures to be automatically erased from the camera
after download to the computer. Recently, the wizard still shows this option
but it is no longer accessible--i.e., I cannot check that option anymore as
it is "greyed out." Does anyone know how to remedy the problem? Thanks.

Be happy that this option is no longer available.
After you download your pictures to your hard drive, you:
1. Make sure they are on your hard drive.
2. Copy them to a CD or an external drive.
3. Make sure they are on the CD or external drive.
4. Now you can delete the picture from your memory card. You use your camera
to do this. Under menus, you will find the item FORMAT. This will erase all
the pictures from the card and ready to take new pictures.

Yves,
Thanks for your reply. I was annoyed because, once all the photos were
downloaded, I did not know how to delete all of them at once from the memory
card and had to do so one by one. Now that you have explained about the
"Format" option, it makes things simpler (I could not find this in the
Cybershot guide). However, I still do not know why the check-box option in
the wizard is greyed out... Many thanks for your help!

No problem.
Depends on the camera you have.
Sony will not give you this option.
Other cameras will and if you use some software to download photos from any
camera you may also have this option. Very bad idea.
Even worse is to have the option to format the card using your computer.
If you had this option before with a Sony camera I really don't know why it
was there or how to repair it.
