Automatic "CSS-like" indicators in long PPT presentation

Is there a way to automatically put something like a
cascading-style sheet (CSS) mechanism in powerpoint? I've
seen it done, but it's done manually, so any changes can
be quite painful if they affect the structure of the
presentation (i.e., you have to go back and edit each
chart to correct it)? ( If someone is inspired to develop
and sell this I would probably buy it, and I have some
other ideas on how to make this feature really useful and
easy to use. ) -jim

I guess I am not sure I see it, but maybe that will work.
I am just looking at something that automatically extracts
the hierarchy of a presentation and puts a cue for the
reader on each slide. The only way I know of is manual,
which is tedious. I made the hopefully correct analogy of
css, which does this on web pages. But I don't want to
generate html. I'll look at this tool again. Thanks
anyway -jim

Have you explored the use of templates? That's the closest thing I can
think of in PowerPoint.

What kind of "changes" do you mean?
You can make changes to a master slide
and then apply those changes to all existing
and new slides automatically using the
Format/Slide Design command (in PP 2003).
This has the same effect, in PowerPoint, as
applying a style sheet (css) to a group of HTML
pages.

See the topic "Apply a design template"
in the PP online help.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. CSS is a way of creating styles for things
like text and boxes in HTML. Are you looking for a way to create Word-like
styles in PowerPoint, or are you after something like what are called
"Breadcrumbs"? Ie, a trail showing where you've been and how to get back
there?

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that it's important that
PowerPoint provide this kind of functionality, don't forget to send your
feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
