A big part of my day-to-day job is downloading/saving hyperlinks to .pdf
files sent to me via e-mail. Is there any way to automate this process?

Not from within Outlook. You would create a very insecure environment this
way since I could make you automatically download malware to your computer
or send an email with that many links in it that your computer would take
till the end of the year to process it all.

Yes, since addresses can be spoofed. Even if it is possible to fully
automate it by a custom addin, I would still recommend against it for
aforementioned reasons.
