I have been having some troubles with my db as of late. If I don't do a
compact and repair every couple of days it seems to go haywire. I have found
that as long as I do that it runs pretty good. But on the occasion I am not
in the office but traveling I would like to find a way to have my db do an
auto compact and then back itself up.

Is Access capable of doing this? If so can someone point me into the
direction of how to get it done?

Here are a couple of VS Script files that show how to compact and backup a file
using the windows scripting engine. You could schedule these .vbs files to run
nightly. Just edit them (of course) with your file paths.

I understand the code in the scripts but where do I insert them in Access?
Also, how do I define the time to have it auto run?

I'm sorry for not explaining that more clearly. When I said 'you could schedule them'
I meant through Windows Task Manager, not through Access.

Start | Program Files | Accessories | System Tools | Scheduled Tasks

Give it a look and the wizards will walk you through the process. Once you have the
VBS files ready, just schedule their launch as a nightly job.
