Autofill not working in filling out "to" on Outlook 2007

Ben, I'm having the same problem as the "Bob" that you responded to. My
Outlook 2003 will occasionally autofill names in the TO: field, but the
infrequent autofill response suggests that recipients of my recent e-mails
are not automatically added to my Contacts list.

I do not have an "Advanced" choice under Tools|Options. Say again where I
tell Outlook to suggest names and autofill?

Where do I tell Outlook 2003 to remember the addresses to which I've
previous sent e-mail?

I just roamed over to an Outlook Training Video on this support website. The
training video said that the autofill e-mail names list is **not** equal to
one's Contact list. It said that this list is separate from Contacts but is
indeed updated each time you send e-mail.

I think what I'm seeing is that my autofill list is not updating each time I
send. Most of the names suggested when I autofill come from the era last
summer before I upgraded my computer and transferred the old .pst file to the
new copy of Outlook 2003.

The previous version of Outlook on the old computer was also Outlook 2003.

Any ideas to obtain more reliable updating of the autofill list?

Is it possible that inappropriately timed hard re-boots of this computer are
causing autofill candidates to be lost and not updated to the autofill list?

The inappropriate hard re-boots are caused when Windows Update downloads new
software and forces a computer re-boot in the middle of the night while my
daytime applications are still open and running.

The forced re-boots are causing my QuickBooks and UPS Worldship apps to go
nuts.

This could cause it, yes. Files that Outlook has open may not be properly
closed and buffers not written to the files. I believe the NK2 file is one
of those that doesn't get written properly unless Outlook closes gracefully.

Why in the world would you configure Windows Update to install anything
without your permission?

I have Outlook 2007 and autofill is not working but I did the "Tools |
Options | Advanced | Suggest names..." and the box was checked.

Any other suggestions?

State what is not working that you think should. Explain how you populated
your autocompletion cache.

When composing a new email message, typing in the "To" field does not
trigger the list of posssible email addresses.

I didn't do anything to populate an autocompletion list. I thought the list
that is used is my 'contacts" list.

Nope. The autocompletion cache has nothing to do with your contacts. It is
used to remember the addresses to which you've previously sent mail.
